No mere glossy gimmick, despite their youthfulness and their novelty hit, the New Boyz were labeled 'the Young Teens of Hip-Hop' by the New York Times before they even had an official single out. Earl 'Ben J' Benjamin and Dominic 'Legacy' Thomas met in the L.A. suburb of Victorville during their freshman year of high school. While initially nemeses, the pair built a friendship over a shared love of rhyme, and constructed a MySpace site to promote their first single, 'Colorz.' The duo's big break came in the summer of 2009, when 'You're a Jerk,' a tough but slightly goofy crunk jam built upon a popular local dance called 'jerkin',' became a crossover pop hit. The duo followed up quickly in September with their debut album Skinny Jeanz & a Mic. The second single set to be released from the album was intended to be 'Dot Com', but for unknown reasons, plans were changed. In an interview with HipHopDX.com, when asked about how the collaboration came about, Ray J said, 'I met The New Boyz at the BET Awards and my little niece Sy’rai, she loves ['You're A Jerk'] so I wanted to meet them so I could have some credibility with my niece like 'Oh, I got The New Boyz' number and I’m about to call them over right now,' you know like that type of thing. So I got their number and they called me, then I called them and they asked me to do a record, and I said, 'Okay, send it over.' I heard it and it just went from there.
